Adi Shankar’s Guardians of Justice Trailer Basically Turns TMNT’s Krang Into Galactus

The trailer for Adi Shankar’s multimedia Netflix series The Guardians of Justice basically puts a classic TMNT villain into the body of Galactus.

The trailer for Netflix’s weirdest new show, Adi Shankar’s The Guardians of Justiceturns a classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle villain into a major Marvel Comics character.

In addition to an apparent Batman v Superman Parody, the short trailer features the “eternal cosmic titan, Galacron,” who resembles the supervillain Krang, a recurring antagonist in the TMNT franchise. Krang first appeared in the animated TMNT series in 1987 and often takes the form of a tentacled brain occupying a large robot body. In the Guardians trailer, he appears as “Galacron,” a gelatinus brain occupying a robotic form similar to Galactus, a cosmic entity and main antagonist in the Marvel Universe.

Created by Shankar, who also serves as showrunner and producer, The Guardians of Justice is a multimedia project that fuses live-action with both 2D and 3D animation, claymation and other forms of visual storytelling for the seven episode series. Per the synopsis provided by Netflix: “When their seemingly fearless leader self-destructs, a team of troubled superheroes must confront festering evil in the world — and in themselves.”

The Guardians of Justice, which premiered on March 1, stars professional wrestler and WCW World Heavyweight Champion Diamond Dallas Page as the superhero Knight Hawk. Page is joined by fellow castmates Sharni Vinson as The Speed, Derek Mears, Denise Richards, Hal Ozsan and Andy Milonakis.

“I’m not trying to say anything about the superhero genre,” Shankar said about the series in an interview with Inverse. “I don’t feel like Guardians of Justice is in the superhero genre. It’s in the superhero motif. I’m of the generation where the superhero is just a tool to tell a story.” He continued, “When you look at the vast majority genre of superhero entertainment, there’s a motif there: People wearing costumes and capes and stuff. But there’s a narrative construct through which they exist. They can’t just all be fighting Magneto forever. The superhero genre stopped being the superhero genre a long time ago.”

Shankar is known for his role as executive producer on Netflix’s critically acclaimed Castlevania anime, and also served as the executive producer on the cult superhero film, Dredd. It was announced in July 2021 that Shankar would helm an animated adaptation of the popular battle royale shooter, PUBG: Battlegrounds. He is also known for his work on The Bootleg Universewhich began as a YouTube series of unauthorized fan films feauturing characters like The Punisher and Venom from Marvel Comics, as well as Power Rangers, Pokémon, James Bond and even Mister Rogers.
