Canadiens place goalie Hammond on injured reserve, call up Primeau from Laval

Andrew “The Hamburglar” Hammond will have to wait a while longer to go to 4-0 after the Montreal Canadiens goaltender suffered a lower-body injury that has put him on the injured reserve list.

The Canadiens made the announcement on Friday, adding that Cayden Primeau has been brought up on an emergency recall from Laval to take Hammond’s spot, and will be in the lineup when the Habs face the Edmonton Oilers on Hockey Night in Canada on saturday.

According to the Canadiens, Hammond suffered the injury against the Calgary Flames on Thursday, a 5-4 OT win for Montreal. Hammond stopped 30 of 34 shots in the nets for the Habs.

In four appearances for the Canadiens this season, Hammond, 34, is 3-0 with a 2.75 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.

Left with Kevin Poulin as the only active goaltender after trading Micheal McNiven to the Calgary Flames Thursday, the Rocket have signed Tristan Berube to a professional try out contract.

Berube has a 4-3-2 record for Montreal’s ECHL affiliate Trois-Rivieres Lions in 10 games played. He started the 2021-22 season with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees of U Sports.
