Marvel Comics forefather Stan Lee has his legacy enshrined at Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus attraction.
While Avengers Campus — a heroic attraction within the Disney California Adventure Park — already stands as an homage to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the park has now incorporated a plaque to officially commemorate the legacy of legendary Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee.
Disney Parks unveiled the memorial plaque on Twitter, sharing that visitors can find it near Avengers Campus at the California Adventure park in Anaheim. The latest addition to the park is emblazoned with a quote from Lee that reads, “That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt a real superhero. ” This same quote was used as a dedication to Lee in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Versewhich featured one of the late comic book legend’s final film cameos.
Lee’s plaque outside Avengers Campus celebrates the original True Believer’s 100-year legacy and influence in the world of comics. Before the 95-year-old writer passed away in 2018, he had the opportunity to play alongside the characters he co-created in a string of beloved cameos. Despite his absence, Lee’s presence still looms large in further installments of the MCU. Spider-Man: No Way Home was the most recent project with a planned homage to Lee incorporated into its script.
Opening in the summer of 2021, California Adventure’s Avengers Campus features an Ant-Man and the Wasp-inspired restaurant, not to mention rides inspired by Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, among other attractions. Lee isn’t the only legend Avengers Campus honors, mind you. Near the Guardians of the Galaxy ride, visitors might notice bizarre multi-colored patterns adorning the ground. These are based on “Kirby Krackle,” a visual technique innovated by late artist Jack Kirby, who was instrumental to Marvel’s success. Still, Lee’s dedication at the park grants visitors a moment to reflect upon the legacy of the comic book creator to whom the MCU owes so much.
Doctor Strange, the reality-bending wizard created by Lee and late artist Steve Ditko, takes center stage in the MCU’s next film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswhich is due to premiere in theaters on May 6.
