Hypersomnia: symptoms, causes and treatments

Sleep is essential for a person’s health, and people who feel tired on occasion often boost their energy levels by taking a nap or ensuring a restful shut-eye the next evening. But when sleep does not relieve exhaustion, it may be a sign of hypersomnia.

Hypersomnia is a chronic condition characterized by episodes of excessive daytime sleepiness or prolonged nighttime sleep (over 11 hours), according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
