New financial support for creative industries was announced by the province on Wednesday, April 19.
The investment of $42 million will provide assistance to individuals and businesses involved in the motion picture, music, publishing, and interactive digital media industries.
The new funding is divided into fourcategories. $22.5 million will be provided over three years to Amplify BC, which will work to establish music talent and help individuals launch their careers. $15.9 million will be allocated over three years to support the domestic motion picture production, workforce, and creators, including $900,000 for programs aimed at developing workers’ skills, recruiting more workers from underrepresented groups, and promoting environmentally friendly practices.
A new program that will provide $3 million over three years to encourage innovation and growth for independent BC-owned interactive digital media companies has been established. Finally, $600,000 will be given over three years to the publishing industry to address immediate supply-chain challenges and provide additional support for a sustainable future.
