Not only have the Tigers secured their first win of the season, they’ve ended a 12-game losing streak that stretched back 273 days.
The most criticized player in the league, halfback Luke Brooks, turned in a blinder in the rain-soaked match, blasting two 40-20s and setting up the Tigers first try with a grubber.
“It was good. I feel like it was a long time coming,” Brooks told Fox League.
“I feel like over the last few weeks we haven’t been playing too bad. We’ve been close.
We were confident coming into the game today.
“It was a tough one. They (the Panthers) have been the benchmark over the last three years.
“It was just great to get a win.”
Brooks, Apisai Koroisau, David Klemmer, Brandon Wakeham, Jahream Bula, John Bateman and Alex Twal were all crucial to that one.
Koroisau was facing the Panthers, with whom he won two NRL titles, for the first time.
Klemmer was a monster in the middle of the park in sodden conditions, piling up 209 metres.
And how about Bula? The second-game rookie produced a tremendous try-saving tackle on Nathan Cleary with about 20 minutes remaining and defused an extremely challenging Cleary bomb in the dying stages.
Be honest. Who tipped the Tigers to win that one?
